Small cell lung cancer is a fast-growing type of lung cancer commonly caused by smoking. It is an aggressive form of lung cancer. SCLC most commonly occurs in smokers. It usually begins in the breathing tubes (bronchi) and grows rapidly, forming large tumours and spreading throughout the body. Small cell lung cancer treatment options are based mainly on the cancer stage (extent), but certain other factors, such as a patient’s overall health and lung function are also important. Sometimes, more than one type of treatment is considered. If you have Small cell lung cancer, you will perhaps get chemotherapy if you are healthy enough. In case you have limited stage disease, radiation therapy and rarely surgery can be options as well. Individuals with extensive stage disease often take chemotherapy either with or without immunotherapy.
