Azathioprine 50 mg is aimed to prevent organ rejection in recipients with kidney transplant. It is usually prescribed with other medications to allow the new kidney to function normally. The azathioprine 50 mg tablet is also aimed to treat rheumatoid arthritis. In this condition, the immune system attacks healthy joints. Falls under immunosuppressants azathioprine acts by weakening the immune system to favour your body to accept the new kidney as if it were your own (in the scenario of an organ transplant) or to prevent further destruction of your joints (in the case of rheumatoid arthritis). The usual dose of azathioprine 50 mg is administered by mouth with a meal.
