Naltrexone is a prescription injectable drug used for the treatment of alcohol or opioid dependence. Naltrexone falls under opiate antagonists. It acts by inhibiting activity in the limbic system, a part of the brain, involved in alcohol dependence. The naltrexone injection comes as a solution (liquid) to be administered into the muscle of the buttocks by a doctor once every 4 weeks.
